Starburst is a leading data access platform known for their ability to process, analyze, and make accessible massive amounts of data. If it sounds complicated, that's because it often can be. In fact, simply onboarding clients onto the platform took three hours! Before Starburst Data launched its cloud-based solution, the organization partnered with Yes Yes Know for usability testing and product strategy. The goal: to ensure customers could get setup and start using their data as quickly as possible. The need: speed up “time to insight” on the cloud.

When Starburst Data was ready to lauch their cloud-based solution, they wanted to ensure getting started was quick and easy for their customers. Yes Yes Know conducted an initial round of usability testing that showed that the initial iteration of the onboarding process could be lenthy due to the infrastructure prerequisites, multiple skills sets and approvals required. This amounted to extended onboarding times, handoffs within the customer organization, and a lot of handholding by Starburst Data employees. Yes Yes Know’s objective was to speed up “time to insight” and ensure people could start using the new features as quickly as possible.

The solution: testing, testing, 1-2-3 minutes max.

Yes Yes Know tested the setup, the configuration, and recorded time on-task. They identified points of friction and brainstormed solutions. After implementing improvements, Starburst Data invited Yes Yes Know back for another round of usability testing. The results showed that the average onboarding time was now under three minutes.
